Deploying the new regime Print E-mail

Amid one of the many recent heated conference debates about the growing problem of congestion at marqueedeploy3 cruise ports, a cruise company executive stopped the show by claiming that the companies were precluded from coordinating deployments thanks to US anti-trust regulations.

Some of those present must have wondered how anti-trust could possibly apply to brands within the same company. Yet, according to Buckelew, Carnival’s 10 brands were acting as if it did just that.

Buckelew says: “The individual brands simply made their own plans without reference to the others. The only time there was collaboration was when they were using one of the Carnival-owned/operated ports or private islands.”

This was all part of the autonomous brand ethos of the group created by chairman and CEO Micky Arison, who wanted each brand to make its own decisions with as little interference from head office as possible. To ensure that the right decisions were taken, he made sure each brand president or CEO knew that he or she would stand or fall by those decisions.

No-one could deny that it worked pretty well as Carnival acquired more brands (peaking at 12 – now ten) and become a corporation that turned in US$2bn-plus profits.

But times changed, profits fell and Arison gave way as CEO to Arnold Donald, who was quick to put his stamp on the company with a new philosophy designed to leverage the corporation’s scale as never before through communication, collaboration and cooperation.

If that sounds suspiciously like corporate business-speak, Buckelew had been at the sharp end as president and CEO of Princess Cruises and he had long seen the need for exactly that kind of core change.

He explains: “The centre of the corporation has no ships and does not generate any revenue so, unless it is helping the brands to do that, it is not really adding much value. When I was at Princess, there would be situations where different central departments would be working on often overlapping projects, during which they would tap into brand people for the information they needed, taking them away from their day jobs.”

He had made his feelings about this and the general lack of brand cooperation clear enough for him to be the obvious man for the job when Donald was looking for someone to guide what will likely not be an easy transition.

“Once I got here as COO (December 2013), I wanted to make sure each department had a clearly defined mission,” he says. The over-riding mission, though, is to bring the brands closer together in a wide range of areas, from deployment and shore excursions to newbuilds and flight programmes.

“On deployments, it was too late for more than a little tinkering around the edges of the summer 2015 and winter 2015-2016 programmes but planning started in August 2014 for summer 2016 through to 2017 so the focus is on starting the changes there.”

deploy4Those changes will involve making decisions on which brands or ships should operate from and to which ports on which days to achieve the best results for Carnival Corporation.

“It won’t affect every brand or every destination,” says Buckelew. “Seabourn does not really compete directly with any of our other brands apart from maybe Cunard from time to time so it will be left to its own deployment devices. And in Alaska, Holland America Line and Princess have already been collaborating since their two (once separate) tour operating companies were combined into just one. Between them, the brands have 80% of a market they dominate so there is no need to change the way the deployments are working.

“But there are other places where there are opportunities for us to coordinate deployments to make us more competitive. For example, Carnival Cruise Lines has programmes to the Mexican Caribbean from homeports like Mobile, New Orleans and Galveston. We are now asking whether we should put a premium brand in there with Carnival.”

He also points to the recent decision to shift two HAL ships to the P&O Cruises Australia fleet from the end of 2015. “The Australian market is growing fast and this will allow our leading brand there to develop the emerging markets out of Brisbane, Perth and Melbourne.”

The relatively small size of the ships will also mean they are not affected by Sydney’s lack of berthing capacity for ships too large to pass under the harbour bridge.

Buckelew acknowledges that adjustments will have to be made when programmes are planned but says that since there has never been more than a few weeks between their different schedules, it should not be too disruptive to bring them all into line.

“It will help that we have already collected most of our brands into several larger groups,” he adds, referring to the Costa Group, which includes AIDA Cruises and Ibero Cruceros; Carnival UK (P&O Cruises and Cunard Line); and the Holland America Group, which recently added Princess to its Seabourn responsibilities.

This may also help the process when it comes to another, potentially contentious part of this new collaborative process: shore excursions.

He says: “All the brands like to think that they offer a distinctive set of tours that are unique to them. The reality is that there are quite a number that are interchangeable so it does make sense to rationalise the way these are procured.

“We have set up an All Brands committee to oversee this operation, which will obviously concentrate on the high-volume tour ports where there is more to be gained by one person negotiating for all brands, rather than several people doing so separately for individual brands. We have tasked people at different brands to look at ports in different regions so that they can decide where it would be best to use just one tour operator and where it is better to work with multiple operators – and then explain why to the committee before their decision is accepted.”

There are six trials currently running at key ports but, says Buckelew, the idea is to have a set of standard tours while negotiating optional extras for each, which individual brands can then add to customise their versions of the tours. “Hopefully, we will only have to do this kind of heavy lifting once but there can be a surprising amount of volatility in these marketplaces as cruising is growing so fast in some places.

“New operators do come onto the scene and it may be in our interests to work with them and not the one picked the previous season so we will be monitoring the situation from year to year.”

Again, any changes will not be manifest until summer 2016 as the shore excursion contracts were already fixed for 2015 by the time Buckelew became COO.

Using the combined strength of what he describes as Carnival’s ‘portfolio of brands’ would seem an obvious tactic to secure cuts in port fees and charges, which are a constant source of tension between cruise companies and the destinations they visit.

But Buckelew has only modest ambitions in that direction. “Most of the charges are Government tariffs and they are always difficult to change but, if we just secured some changes in the terms and conditions of our operations, it would be something.”

 He takes a similar view of the way the company will be negotiating the not insignificant purchase of air travel for its passengers and crew. “This is costing us about US$1bn with 25% of that related to crew travel. Although some of that is charter, we still do a lot of business with scheduled airlines.

“This was being bought by individual brands but we will have more strength doing this for the whole group. If this does not mean lower flight prices, we should at least be able to negotiate some changes in the terms. If we only won the right to cancel flights without charge, that would be a significant saving.”

Much like the deployment issue, it has been something of a surprise to learn that there was not already more collaboration between the brands over newbuilds and retrofitting projects. But this is an area where Buckelew sees great potential for time and cost savings. He says: “We want to achieve more uniformity across the technical side which the public does not see. For example, we are examining the concept of having just one hull type for larger ships and one for smaller ships. And although we have already built up some levdeploy2el of standardisation for the ships’ bridges, we want to go further and have the same design for all our ships.” This would not just mean a saving in design and build costs but would also create a major benefit in the area of bridge officer training.

There will still be some within the Carnival brands who see all this as just a land grab by a head office intent on centralising the way the company operates. But Buckelew believes that – in time – it will represent something quite the opposite. “I believe the centre of this company will gradually get smaller with more responsibility moving to brands – particularly the HAL, Costa and Carnival UK groups – with the centre just acting to support them.

“The fact is that the people at the brands are always closest to what is going on out there and they are the best placed to respond to any changes in the market.”

As Adam Goldstein settles in as president and COO of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., he talks to Michele WitthausRoyalCaribbeanInternationalRevealsGroundbreakingSttDkCZgBR9x about his new job and his proudest achievements for the Royal Caribbean International brand

As president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.’s leading cruise brand since 2002, Adam Goldstein had successfully navigated a wide variety of market conditions when his new role in the global organisation was announced in April. It seems a good time to ask him what achievements the change of title will enable – and what goals he still has for Royal Caribbean International before his successor is named.

“One of the primary attractions of the new role for me is the opportunity to be very broadly involved over the whole organisation,” says Goldstein. “I absolutely loved being responsible for the team at Royal Caribbean International, but my interest after doing that for 12 years was to figure out a way to be involved in all of the brands and big challenges facing the business. So the new role will allow me to do that.”

A particular focus for him will be working with the members of the shared services group for which he has taken on direct responsibility. “This will include extending the shared services footprint to be more encompassing of some of our other brands. I want to make sure we are supporting the company through its global expansion, particularly in Asia, but also in general.”

He remarks: “I was a customer of the shared services group for almost 25 years; now suddenly I’m a provider of the shared services and so it will be a new and different experience.”

During the period of transition before a new Royal Caribbean International president is announced, it is business as usual where the brand is concerned for Goldstein. “In the interim period, both Richard Fain and I are very available to work with the leadership team,” he says. “It is a very busy and exciting time in the months leading up to delivery of Quantum of the Seas. I’m very happy to work with the team towards those goals.”

Delivering the Quantum class will be a fitting high on which to hand over day-to-day management of the cruise line. “I think there is a real fascination with the Quantum class that is building up as we proceed toward deliveries of Quantum and Anthem of the Seas,” says Goldstein. “We can see now that these ships have emerged in the theoretical shadow of Oasis and Allure of the Seas and they live on their own as really noteworthy new ships. In February, Anthem of the Seas became the fastest selling UK-based ship for Royal Caribbean International and it will be the most technologically advanced cruise ship ever to be based in Europe when it is launched in spring 2015.”

Indeed, he is delighted to see the brand’s European investments paying off. The UK market in particular has enjoyed special favour with the Anthem of the Seas homeport announcement. “We’ve been very logical and disciplined in how we’ve built up our presence in Southampton over 10 years, starting with Legend of the Seas and working up to Independence of the Seas,” remarks Goldstein. “We’ve added two ships at a time and now Anthem of the Seas is one of those. It’s been very deliberate and very successful. The UK market is still today the number two cruise market in the world after the US.” Explorer of the Seas is also to homeport in Southampton from 2015 and Brilliance of the Seas will call Harwich home.

The rolling programme of ship revitalisations is also still demanding a lot of his attention. From 2011 to 2013, a total of 12 ships have been refurbished with an additional two ships receiving makeovers in 2014. “The Navigator of the Seas drydock in January this year was a very important step in our revitalisation programme because in addition to adding or renewing many of the features on board, we added a significant number of staterooms and that was a pretty major construction project,” says Goldstein. “We also added a new suite type. We’ve had a very positive reception to everything we did.”

He observes: “Once we focused on what we could take back from the newest classes to the older classes of cruise ships, we realised that there was much more that we could do than we had understood. What we have been able to take in terms of adding speciality restaurants, entertainment venues, nurseries and all kinds of technology, is really making these ships significantly enhanced. Navigator of the Seas is a truly refreshed ship and she’s only 11 years old. So we’re very pleased and will continue to push forward with our programme.”

The cruise season 2014 in Odessa came to its end, and if the “start” of the season 2014 began with 2DSC_0085_a0 cruise ship calls in April, with a further variation of 2-5 cruise ship calls in the following months due to unstable political situation in Ukraine, then in October a cruise “record” was achieved, i.e. 10 cruise ship calls:

  • On October 4, two “autumn swallows”  moored at berths of passenger terminal: The liner SERENISSIMA (87,4 m, Saint-Vincent and Grenadine flag) with 102 passengers on board and m/v Deutschland (175,3 m, Germany flag) with 324 passengers.

Serenissima is regarded as a veteran of cruise business, it is being in cruise lines from 1960, and came from Sochi.

Both cruise liners are frequent guests of Odessa. As a rule, they call at Odessa sea port in autumn, and in summer cruise over North routs.

  • On October, 8, according to the schedule, 2 cruise liners of the company Hapag-Lloyd called at Odessa Sea Port, i.e. m/v BREMEN (111. 52 m, Bahamas flag, with 128 passengers on board) and m/v Europa 2 (225m, Maltese flag, with 292 passengers) .

It should be reminded that on September 16, the m/v EUROPA called at Odessa, and the calling at Odessa sea port was regarded as the act of support of Ukraine, and became an example for other cruise liners: Odessa is open and safe for sea-travelers, despite of hard political situation.

  • On October 10, the cruise liner ISLAND SKY (90 m, Bahamas flag) moored at the berth #15 of Odessa passenger terminal.


  • On October 17, 2014 Odessa accepted 115 tourists from the m/v Bremen (Bahamas flag), who are mainly the Germans with a sunny and warm weather in classic style of “Indian summer”.  This is a second ship calling of the liner, belonging to Hapag-Lloyd at Odessa sea port. It visited Odessa only 9 days ago.


  • On October 21, the cruise liner Island Sky (90m, Bahamas flag) ) called at Odessa sea port with Odessa-style schedule, at 7:40 am. The m/v Island Sky visits Odessa sea port regularly during the last few years. This tradition is held also this year. The previous visit of the liner was on October 10.


  • On October 22 the Celtic Queen visited Odessa. Despite the fog, on October 22, in the morning, the cruise0-DSC_0169 ship BOUDICCA (206 m, Nassau home-port) proceeded Vorontsov gates and on 9:00 am moored at 15th berth of the passenger terminal of Odessa sea port and carried 704 passengers on board.
    The m/v BOUDICCA was built in 1973 in Finland. For 4 decades the ship has repeatedly changed names and the owners, survived the fire and two upgrades. Its present name, in honor of the Celtic Queen who fought against the Romans, the liner received in 2005 when it was bought by the Norwegian-British shipping company Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines.

And finally:

  • On October 23, the cruise season 2014 ended with calling of the vessel AMADEA at Odessa sea port.  The vessel, with 415 passengers on board came from Constanta at 8:00 am. The leaving of the vessel was scheduled on 23:00 pm to Sochi, but due to weather conditions, it stayed in Odessa for 3 days.  The administration of the cruise tried to compensate the breakdown of the port call schedule by force-majeure circumstances by the expansion of the program of a stay of tourists in Odessa.

DSC_0025The liner, with musical name AMADEA was built in 1991, under order of Japan company and initially had the name “ASUKA”. The zest of the vessel is the presence of the classic theatrical hall on the board. At the time of the building of the vessel it was the first shipboard theatre with personal loges. At the present time the m/v AMADEA is a flagship liner of the German freighter PHOENIX REISEN.

Note: At the beginning of 2014, 159 cruise ship calls were registered, of which 37 ships are more than 200 meters in length, with a passenger capacity of more than 1000 people. But still, there were 28 cruise ship calls, that is 78 cruise ship calls less than in 2013 (26%). 8123 passengers were served, that is 73246 passengers less than in 2013 (10%). If to talk about ship-type “sea-river”, 41 ship call was registered on 2014, and only 4 cruises were performed, with a total number of passengers of 384 people.  Up today, 81 cruise ship calls are registered on 2015.

New offshore cruise ship terminal in the Adriatic could resolve the debate over the gigantic liners that plough through______ Venice's lagoon

Venice is studying a new proposal for reducing the impact of the colossal cruise ships that enter its lagoon on a daily basis – the construction of an artificial terminal island in the Adriatic.

Cruise ship passengers would disembark on the man-made, 3,000ft-long jetty and board a fleet of catamarans which would ferry them into Venice.

Each catamaran would be able to take around 800 passengers, with the transfer to Venice's historic centre taking less than an hour.

The proposed solution would allow passengers to still experience the thrill of entering the lagoon by boat, but would satisfy the complaints of the many Venetians who say that the giant cruise ships are an eyesore, dwarfing the city's bell towers and palazzi as they lumber through the lagoon.

Critics also say the cruise ships pollute Venice and exacerbate the erosion of its fragile foundations as they pass within a few hundred yards of St Mark's Square and along the narrow Giudecca Canal to the existing cruise ship terminal.

But the cruise industry earns Venice millions of pounds a year and supporters say it is vital for the city's economy.

The industry is in favour of dredging a new channel in the lagoon, known as the Contorta-Sant'Angelo, which would enable ships to access the existing cruise ship terminal without sailing so close to Venice.

But the artificial jetty, which would cost around 128 million euros (?100 million), would dispense with the need for the channel, which environmentalists object to on the grounds that it would upset the ecosystem of the lagoon.

Up to five big cruise ships could dock at the proposed new terminal, which would be built on an artificial island at the mouth of the northernmost of three inlets which connect the lagoon to the Adriatic.

"It's the most logical solution," Renato Bodi, a spokesman for Duferco Engineering, the Italian company behind the idea, told the Telegraph.

"It would remove the big cruise ships from Venice's lagoon while still allowing passengers to experience the magic of arriving by water.

"It would take about two years to build and would avoid having to dig a new channel, which would be 100 metres [110 yards] wide and would have a big environmental impact on the lagoon. It seems to us to be the perfect compromise."

The company said it had the support of many Venetian politicians, as well as environmental groups, and hoped for a decision from the Italiangovernment within the next two months.



3 Cruise Lines That Are Growing The Cruise Industry Print E-mail

The cruise industry is always growing but there are those cruise lines that are growing a lot faster than others which are really helping grow the industry. With new cruise regions opening up like Asia there are new possibilities for new ship orders and even totally new cruise line companies!

In this article we’ll look at the more established cruise operators and see what they are doing to expand and grow the industry. The cruise lines featured are not in any particular order and there are other cruise lines not mentioned that are also expanding.

                                                                 Norwegian Cruise Line

NCL is currently one of the fastest growing cruise lines in the world and ever since the Miami based cruise line___1 ordered the 156,000 ton Norwegian Epic in 2010 it hasn’t stopped! Before Epic NCL was only really known as the “freestyle” cruise line but Norwegian Epic started a new trend of ship orders. From that moment on Norwegian Cruise Line was here to stay and was a new journey to become one of the largest cruise lines in the world which in turn helps the industry.

The Breakaway class ships then became the main focus, starting with Norwegian Breakaway in 2013 and then Norwegian Getaway in 2014. When Breakaway first sailed after it;s christening in New York the entire cruise industry came alive with constant media reports on a brand new class vessel. Not just that but all new onboard features and experiences sailing from one of the worlds most iconic cities pushed the cruise industry onto a higher step.

And now the cruise line is continuing the trend with ordering 4 Breakaway Plus cruise ships. two of those orders have already been named Norwegian Escape and Bliss at 163,000 tons. The other two will be slightly larger at 164,000 tons. That means NCL will have a new cruise ship almost every year up until 2019! That will have a huge effect on cruise bookings and will possibly open up new itineraries in Asia.

MSC Cruises is a private company with its headquarters in Europe and that means it can expand without telling the world about its finances. This is exactly what MSC Cruises has been doing in recent years. The cruise line has ordered four ships to be built which will increase the options available for MSC and might even expand its offerings in North America. Not many Americans have cruised on MSC so this could bring an all new ball game to the region which will only benefit the cruise industry.

Two MSC future ships will be built by STX Europe in France and are expected to be the largest ever vessels built for the cruise line at 167,600 tons. Another two ships have also been ordered with the Italian ship builder Fincantieri. The Fincantieri builds are known as the Seaside project and is a totally new class at 154,000 tons. Larger ships mean more passenger bookings and new onboard innovations to help evolve the industry.

MSC Cruises is also in the middle of upgrading all of its Lirica class ships with a major “Renaissance Program” that’s adding more cabins and features. The ships will also be cut into two so a large block can be added in the middle to make the vessels even bigger. This will keep the dry dock yards busy all the way through until the end of 2015.

Star Cruises

If you haven’t yet heard about this cruise line then its just matter of time! Star Cruises is based in Asia and pretty___3 much dominates the region. The cruise line is owned by Gentling Hong Kong which also owns Norwegian Cruise Line. The company has experience within the industry and operates in all regions around the world.

Star Cruises currently has six ships in the fleet and the largest ship is only 75,000 tons but a new era for the Sian based cruise line will soon begin. It’s already ordered two huge new class cruise ships at 150,000 tons and these new ships will be purpose-built for the Asian market.  This in turn could begin a new race in countries like China and Japan to build bigger and larger ships. Asian people are relatively new to cruising and if they catch on to the industry we could see a new type of cruise market for Asia cruises. Cruise Lines like Carnival and Royal Caribbean have already shifted focus to Asia with new cruise ports being planned and new ship itineraries on the way. While many people have cruised the Caribbean and Mediterranean already they could now be seeking a new adventure and it could be with cruise lines like Star Cruises

And So…

It looks like larger ships are here to stay and with these we should see many new cruising experiences for new cruising regions. Asia will help grow the cruise industry with new and old cruise lines building new ships to take advantage of people in that region who might not yet of cruised. Also people wanting to experience something outside the usually cruising destinations will make the cruise lines innovate and expand further.

This is a second ship calling of the liner, belonging to Hapag-Lloyd at Odessa sea port. It visited Odessa only 9 days ago.

According to the tradition, the tourists were met with music and offered to visit bicycle and bus excursion to get acquainted with the city and its sightseeing, covered with scarlet colors of the autumn.

Ten years ago, 12 million people have cruised over the seas and oceans. "Only twelve," we'd sayworldwide today, when the world cruise population has achieved an impressive 21.3 million tourists, having managed to grow over the decade to 77 percent.

The figures shown in the latest research of the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), are striking. For example, the costs of the cruise industry were amounted to $ 117 billion. Today, more than 891 009 specialists are engaged in the industry. It is only those who are registered in the staff with payroll of the salary of 38.47 billion dollars.

According to the head of CLIA Christine Duffy, the cruise industry gives both tourists and crew members, unforgettable destinations, discovering unique places and wonderful holidays. With only one glance at the list of services offered by cruise companies, it becomes clear why there is such popularity in this type of tourism. These are those impressions, which cannot be described. That’s why it isn’t surprising that this industry wallows in profits, and there are no problems with unemployment, and its income is stable, whichever direction you would not have taken.

According to Executive Chairman of «MSC Сruises», and in addition CLIA Europe Vice-Chairman Pierfrancesco Vago, only one Europe in previous year provided 45% of cruise facilities. In one’s turn, the cruise industry became one of the main leading funders of the European economics, especially it became the main employees at the continet. Watching the fact that more and more inhabitants of the Old world are beginning to pay their interest to cruises, Vago prognoses the further growth of that industry.

Below there are some figures of the report prepared for CLIA by the specialists of "Business Research and Economic Advisers” and that are prepared according to statistics 2013:

Cruise liners in the Black Sea Region Print E-mail

The cruise season is going on, and cruise liners of different companies are still calling at ports of the Black Sea region.

  • ·         On October 13, 2014 3 cruise liners called at Trabzon, Turkey. They are: THOMSON CELEBRATION  from Constanta, SAGA PEARL II (previously - QUEST FOR ADVENTURE) from Batumi, and Voyager from Sinop. Also, according to the schedule, the calling at the port of Odessa is also planned on October, 18-19. On October 2014 the cruise liner Saga Pearl II (previously - QUEST FOR ADVENTURE) cruise over Black Sea with calling at 7 ports, not including Istanbul, i.e. :  13.10 –Trabzon, Turkey; 14.10 – Sinpo, Turkey; 16.10 – Varna, Bulgaria; 17.10 – Nessebar, Bulgaria; 18.10 – Istanbul, Turkey.  There are no Crimean ports, and Odessa in the schedule, as it was in 2013. Instead of them Turkish ports, Trabzon and Sinop, were added to the schedule.


  • ·         On October 13, 2014 the cruise liner Aegean Odyssey came from ConstanOdeysseyta to Burgas. The liner is regarded as historical-excursion expedition vessel, and is a common guest in Black sea. In season 2013, the liner had 2 Black Sea cruises, and the success led to 4 cruises (including the current). Though, because of the Crimea annexation, a lot of changes were made in the program of the cruise. In season 2014, the numbers of ship call to Black Sea ports decreased from 7 to 4, the liner doesn’t call at Crimean ports, i.e. to Feodosia, Yalta, Sevastopol, and to Odessa.


  • ·         On October 13, 2014, the well-known in the Black Sea, Holland-American cruise liner PRINSENDAM came from Istanbul to Batumi, the first port of its Black Sea cruise season 2014. If to compare with previous year, the schedule of this liner differs a lot: there is no ship calls to Sevastopol and Sochi, but instead of them, the liner visits Batimi and Trabzon.


  • ·         On October 11, 2014 a German cruise liner DEUTSCHLAND left Istanbul, thus ending the 10-day Blackdeutchand Sea cruise. The route of the cruise: Istanbul (1.10) - Varna (2.10) - Constanta (3.10) - Odessa (4.10) - Sochi (6.10) - Batumi (7.10) - Trabzon (8.10) - Istanbul (10.10).

  • ·         On October 13, 2014 the expeditional cruise liner Island Sky called at Nessebar. The liner will cruise for the second time by the route: Istanbul (3.10), Amasra/Bartin (4.10), Samsun (5.10), Trabzon (6.10), Batumi (7.10), Sochi (8.10), Odessa (10.10), Sulina (11.10), Constanta (12.10), Nessebar (13.10), and Istanbul (14.10).
    The first cruise was held starting from September 22, Island_Sky2014. In previous years, the liner in the frame of the cruise, called also at Yalta and Sevastopol.


Two Hapag-Lloyd cruise ships at Odessa Sea Port Print E-mail

The cruise season in Odessa went on its accustomed way. On October, 8, according to the schedule, 2Bremen cruise liners of the company Hapag-Lloyd called at Odessa Sea Port, i.e. m/v BREMEN (111. 52 m, Bahamas flag, with 128 passengers on board) and m/v Europa 2 (225m, Maltese flag, with 292 passengers) . The passengers are mainly Germans. The first one will stay up to 23:00 pm, and thse second will stay till October, 9, 23:00 pm also.

Sea capital of Ukraine demonstrated the guests its hospitality. The vessels were met with Odessa music. Also tour operators organized an excursion, due to which they are able to get acquainted with the history of the city and its sightseeing.

A family from Spain

We are for the first time, and really, city impressed us a lot. It is very green; people are very welcoming and smiling. We were very lucky with a guide, as the excursion was very interesting, and also, we had a possibility to ride Seagway. We visited a lot of places, but most of all we liked the Opera House, Primorskiy Boulevard, and the Architecture Museum. Also we were impressed by the architecture of the city. We were in Sochi before, and we liked Odessa much more. The only one minus we mentioned is that only the center of the city is that clean, not downtown, a and that a lot of buildings need reconstruction. On the whole, of course we had only positive emotions. We hope to have a walk today, and to taste Odessa cuisine, to go shopping and to by souvenirs.

We loved it, we don’t have any minus to talk about, on the contrary: buildings, trees, people, cleanliness, all that impressed us a lot. An excursion was very interesting, but we still want to have a walk. It is an enormous advantage that the passenger terminal is in the very center of the city, and we won’t waste time. We hope that we will manage to see as much as it is possible.

A family from Germany

We are for the first time in Odessa. We travel a lot, that’s why we have an experience to compare. What we mentioned first of all, is that the city can be divided into two parts: more modern part, and the old one, of course we liked more the latter. The Odessa Opera House is the best one, if to compare with others we had seen before. Now we are going for a walk with a definite goal: we are searching for a hotel, apartments for our next visit with our daughters. The fact that everything is calm and peacefully in Odessa also made us happy. We weren’t afraid to visit Odessa at all, first of all, we were sure, that the vessel wouldn’t have called at the port in case of minimum threat. We watch news, and hope that everything will be calm and peacefully in other cities. If to talk about minuses, we disliked people with birds. We understand that it is a business, so to say, not only in your country exactly, but also in others, but we think that it is an animal’s abuse. We look forward to our next visit with children.
