The m/v Europa opened cruise season in Odessa Sea Port Print E-mail

r5tNbfVF-joOn April 23, 2015 the cruise liner Europa opened the cruise season in Odessa Sea Port (Bahamas flag, length 198, 6 m). The vessel belongs to the company HAPAG-LLOYD CRUISES. The vessel visited Odessa constantly from 2002 to 2007. The last cruise ship call was in 2013. Previous year the vessel quite with the same name, but of luxury class Europa 2, called at Odessa Sea port.

The Europa’s ship call was without hyperbolizing was long-awaited. It isn’t a secret that due to a political situation a lot of companies cancelled ship calls at Odessa sea port. That’s why we met the first “swallow” with a ceremony: with traditional Odessa songs.

On April 24 the vessel will leave Odessa to Istanbul.

Also the passengers shared their impressions about Odessa:

  •       We have visited a lot of cities in the frames of this cruise, but Odessa, it goes without saying, impressed us most of all. It may be said roughly – but the cities, we had visited before were dirty, and emotions were only negative. Odessa is a very clean and green city, and of course it astonished us with its architecture.  We walked for more than 3 hours, and we hope to see even more with our “second attempt”. Also we saw 3 weddings today, which impressed us a lot, and made a lot of pictures of the bride in the carriage, and a couple in the Cadillac!
  •       As I am a writer, I can say that I know what I will write in my new book. I have never been in Ukraine, and I couldn’t even imagine that Odessa can be so beautiful. Opera House and Ballet nearly took my breath, though there are analogues of Opera Houses in different countries, this one is unique. Also I cannot but say about people, they are so smiley, kind, I didn’t notice any people in bad humor. It is perfect. The whole city smells with joy. I hope that all cities in Ukraine will bloom like Odessa.
  •        We prefer walking together, and not to depend on the group, that’s why we have chosen a city tour by foot. And of course we are to underline that it is extremely convenient that the passenger terminal is situated in the very center of the city. We saw a lot, but old Odessa impressed us most of all. It is used to maintain old building in Germany, and not to build new-builds, and we hope that your government will maintain also such an astonishing, amazing architecture. We look forward to return here, but not in the frames of the voyage, but with our friends and family.

Viking River Cruises Expands Fleet With 12 New Ships Christened In Europe Print E-mail

The company christened a total of 12 new river vessels, including 10 of its award-winning Viking Longships® and two custom vessels for the Elbe River. This event officially brings Viking's total river fleet size to 60 and comes just one year after the company set a GUINNESS WORLD RECORD™ for the most new ships launched in a single day.     

All 10 of the new Viking Longships will be deployed on Viking's itineraries in Europe, including three of the most popular itineraries –Grand European Tour, Romantic Danube and Rhine Getaway. Also, as a result of high consumer demand for the Elegant Elbe itinerary, the two new specially designed ships will double the company's capacity on the Elbe River for 2015.

B-iMBGfCIAAPdISRoyal Caribbean International's new generation Oasis-class ship, Harmony of the Seas, is set to launch in April 2016. The third in the Oasis class of ships – currently the largest cruise ships in the world – will continue the award-winning cruise line's philosophy of innovation and imagination to offer a unique vacation adventure for guests.

"We are orchestrating a medley of new exciting concepts with the best Royal Caribbean innovations to strike the perfect chord for adventurous vacationers. That is why we are calling our third Oasis-class ship Harmony of the Seas," said Michael Bayley, President and CEO, Royal Caribbean International.     

Harmony of the Seas, featuring the cruise line's design of seven distinct neighborhoods for which Oasis class is known, will offer the most amazing collection of experiences, amenities and activities at sea. Guests can test their mettle on the ship's three multi-story waterslides, all of which twist and turn over Central Park 10 decks below. One of the slides also will feature a champagne bowl that swirls guests around as they make their approach to the end of the ride.

msc-seaside-largest-shipMSC Cruises revealed Wednesday that the MSC Seaside, the first of the ultra-modern Seaside-class ships, will be the first ship in the MSC Cruises’ fleet to be christened in the United States.

MSC Seaside will sail the Caribbean year-round from PortMiami starting December 2017. The second Seaside-class ship, will be delivered in May 2018 and on option is a third Seaside ship to be delivered in 2021.

The Seaside-class ships will be built by Fincantieri. The ships will be the largest ever built by Fincantieri and will have a gross tonnage of 154,000 tons while measuring 323 meters in length, 41 meter beam and 70 meters tallmsc-seaside-miami-year-round. The ships will include accommodations for nearly 5,300 passengers plus 1,413 crew members.

MSC Cruises placed the landmark order for the first two ships at Fincantieri back in May 2014 at a price of 700 million euro per ship. The order included an option for the third ship.

PortMiami and MSC Cruises have signed a letter of intent for a newly renovated and expanded dedicated berth and terminal at PortMiami, which will serve as MSC Seaside’s homeport.

hamburg-u-prichala-port-nesebrOn March, 27 2015, the cruise liner “Hamburg” called at Bulgarian port Nessebar and opened tourist season 2015, which was opened 2 weeks earlier last year.

As it was informed, there were 300 passengers from Germany, Austria, France, and Belgium on board. They were given an opportunity to get acquainted with city sightseeing.

It should be noted that the liner came from Sochi, were it was till March 25. Then the liner will move to Istanbul.

NB: The next cruise liner is scheduled to call at the Nessebar port on April, 16



Norway will build unique sea tunnel Print E-mail

The Norwegian government intends to construct the first in the world tunnel for ships; the sum of the project is 115740280 million euro. The unique construction will be 1700 m in length, 37 m in height, 26.5 in width. The 12 meters depth should be enough for cargo and mail ships.

The Norwegian government has been discussing the idea of building nearly for 10 years before approving the preliminary working plan.

The tunnel will allow you to cut the distance around the Stadlandet Peninsula. Difficult weather conditions in this part of the North Sea in autumn and winter make navigation very difficult. Over the past 70 years 33 people died in 46 accidents in Stadlandet.

Construction works should begin in 2018.


Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. to Sell Splendour of the Seas Print E-mail

splendour-of-the-seas-1Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. announced today that it has entered into an agreement to sell its cruise ship Splendour of the Seas to TUI Cruises in the second quarter of 2016. The ship will then be leased to Thomson Cruises, which will operate the vessel.

"Splendour of the Seas debuted in 1996 and has served Royal Caribbean International extremely well," said Richard D. Fain, chairman and chief executive officer of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.  "The ship's sale is in line with our strategic objective of divesting ourselves of older hardware and keeps us firmly on the course to the Double-Double."

Splendour of the Seas will complete all scheduled open deployment, and no sailings will be altered or disrupted due to the sale. "Splendour of the Seas has been a treasured member of the Royal Caribbean International family since she entered service," saidMichael Bayley, president and chief executive officer of Royal Caribbean International. "She has offered countless guests memorable vacation experiences and we look forward to continuing to provide the same Gold Anchor Service our brand is known for right up to the last sailing." Her final sailing will commence on April 4, 2016, and all officers and crew will remain with the company and will be transferred to other vessels worldwide after the ship leaves the Royal Caribbean International fleet.

Splendour of the Seas joined the Royal Caribbean International fleet in 1996, and was built by Chantier's de L'Atlantique, now STX France, in St. Nazaire, France. The 69,130-ton ship carries 1,830 guests (double occupancy) and 760 crew.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Costa's First Chinese Around-The-World Voyage Print E-mail

On Monday, March 2, China’s first around-the-world cruise voyage departed from Wusongkou International CruiseChinas-First-Around-the-World-Cruise-debuts-from-Shanghai-on-Costa-Atlantica-620x420 Terminal in Shanghai. The trip will take 86 days and the ship, the Costa Atlantica, is carrying nearly 1,000 passengers.

Presented by Costa Cruises, the first journey of its kind features several notable passengers, including Costa Group CEO Michael Thamm, government officials, trade partners and journalists.

The around-the-world cruise will take travelers to five continents, with stops in 18 countries and 28 different cities and states. Some of the destinations include Athens, Rome, Barcelona, New York City, Maui and Hawaii, as well as many more.

When asked about the growing market in Asia, Thamm expressed his interest in broadening the impact his company has on the region, via a company press release:

What makes Costa Cruises such a force in China was the decision to become a major threat in the market since 2006. With almost a decade to build a brand and rapport with the Chinese population, the cruises have become some of the most exciting in the world.

Crystal_Serenity2-635x424Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) announced Tuesday that it has entered into an agreement for the sale of its U.S.-based luxury cruise line Crystal Cruises to Genting Hong Kong (GHK), the leading cruise operator in Asia and a major shareholder of Norwegian Cruise Line.

The acquisition is expected to close in the second quarter of 2015. Under the terms of the agreement, GHK will acquire Crystal Cruises for US$550 million in cash.

Crystal Cruises’ current fleet currently consists of two ships, the Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity. With the GHK acquisition, Crystal Cruises will be expanding its fleet with the the purchase of a new ship, the details of which have not been determined.

NYK has been the parent company of Crystal Cruises since it was incorporated in 1988 in Los Angeles, California. The company was delivered its first ship, Crystal Harmony, in 1990 from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Nagasaki, Japan. Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity were later added to the fleet in 1995 and 2003, respectively.

GHK, part of the Genting Group, was established in 1993 as a global hospitality and leisure company with business in over 20 countries. GHK wholly owns Star Cruises, Asia’s leading cruise line, and is the largest shareholder of Norwegian Cruise Lines Holdings, parent company to the Norwegian Cruise Lines, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises brands. Together with these brands, GHK is the third largest cruise operator in the world with a combined fleet of 28 ships cruising to over 450 destinations and offering approximately 47,400 lower berths. GHK is a public company primarily listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and secondarily on the Singapore Stock Exchange.
