On February 4, the National University "Odessa Maritime Academy" held an open meeting of the members of the Association «Regional center of competence development of cruise tourism in the Black Sea «Cruise Black Sea (CB)». It was attended by representatives of the Odessa City and regional authorities, professionals in tourism and related industries, social organizations and political organizations, as well as the media. A welcoming speech was made by the rector of the National University "Odessa Maritime Academy" prof. Michael Miyusov, first deputy head of the Odessa Regional Council Oleg Radkovskiy.
During the debate topical issues of tourism sphere were discussed (including cruise sphere), the ways of development in the Black Sea region were outlined. The head of the Odessa branch of the State Enterprise "Administration of Ukrainian sea ports" Mikhail Sokolov gave details about the reasons of drastic decrease in the popularity of the Black Sea region among cruise companies. Interesting reports were made by vice-president of the Association of CBS Elvira Leshchinskaya, executive director of the Association of Black and Azov Sea ports (BASPA) Georgiy Tokman, Director of the Association "Big Odessa" Anna Zhuravskaya. Head of the investments sector in the tourism industry of the Odessa Regional State Administration - Roman Kozlovsky in his presentation pointed out features of investing in the tourism industry of the Odessa region. Members of the CBS Association Assembly are convinced that the way out of this situation lies in the close cooperation with our neighbors in the Black Sea region. After all, according to George Tokman, neighboring countries actively create pleasant conditions for cruise tourism.
For example, in the Bulgarian city Burgas has already been built a second port designed exclusively for cruise liners. The entire coastal area of Ajara has turned into facilitation zone for the development of tourism, including cruise sphere. Ukraine, in particular, the Odessa region, should use the experience of Georgia.
The value of such informal events as an open meeting of the Association of CBS, is that the representatives of various sectors have a chance to exchange ideas and quite frequently they bring something new and fresh in the seemingly well-established mechanisms of the industry functioning. Another thing worth pointing out is a very interesting presentation made by Natalia Mindak, the General Director of telecommunications company Westelecom, which focused on the issues of promotion of tourist attractions and events in the region by using modern telecommunications such as online broadcasting, social media, interactive discussion clubs, thematic online chats.
At the meeting there were also presentations of graduate students, masters and students of the Faculty of Maritime Law and Management.
